“Only one of the candidates is a real man, and in wartime, we can't afford anything less as commander in chief.”

Sly and the Family Stone was the first major rock-soul band to have a sexually and racially integrated lineup and this song was prescient.

Good morn or evening, friends. Lalita Amos here and like The Blog Snob (who, along with new AVA contributor MelissaT inspired this post), I am an authentic American Negro.

One last nugget of fun to share before I clock out in about an hour and a half and drive home to curl up in a nice warm bed while the normal world enjoys their 9-5 day.... (sigh... I really need to win the lottery...)

I was on Racialicious and came across another link that was so outrageous I had to check it out for myself.

In a cost saving move, Starbucks is shuttering 600 stores, with job losses totaling in excess of 12,000.

WOW... I just caught this as I was getting ready to get off here and go to bed. I'll have to post more later about it, but I thought it was certainly worth sharing before I nod off...

Back to the Drawing Board for Disney’s First Black Princess

The feeling of nausea that has overcome me at 4a.m. this morning, isn't due to the fact I'm finishing up a rather long (12 hour) night shift, nor is it due to the chinese food from about 6 hours ago that I probably should have put in the refridgerator some time ago. It's the sort of nausea that envelopes not only ones stomach, but ones soul as well...

A religion scholar with the Martin Marty Institute at the University of Chicago recently mused about a new website, Youvebeenleftbehind.com. Evidently, for forty dollars a year, "those who are relatively assured of their own salvation can leave a final e-mail to less fortunate loved ones who might be left behind during the rapture.

Have you heard the latest?

Not only has Phil Gramm told Americans there is no recession, its all in our heads, but now we learn that he invested in a soft core porn film through encouragement of his brother-in-law (BIL).

His BIL showed Phil the movie "Truck Stop Women - No Rig Is too Big" and invited him to invest $15,000! AND HE DID!

This morning I watched a newsclip of President Bush’s Tuesday press conference (the one that bumped Bad-News Bernanke off the air). At one point, as he defensively answered reporters’ questions about the economy, he made a disdainful remark about MoveOn.org.

I don’t even remember exactly what he said—what struck me and has stayed with me all day was his disdain. Has he ever, do you suppose, considered that the people who make up MoveOn.org are also American citizens, and that he is also answerable to them? I can’t remember a president in my entire lifetime who publicly exhibited such hostility toward people who disagreed with him. His entire demeanor seemed to say, “you don’t like me, fuck you.”

That would be fine if he wasn’t the leader of our country, which implies he should have a few leadership skills. He simply does not. He doesn’t even have enough basic poise to hide his contempt for ordinary Americans who disagree with his policies.
