American Values Alliance | Practical voice for progressive valuesJay Bookman writes in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that:
"According to his spokesman, U.S. Rep. Lynn Westmoreland, a Southerner born and bred, had no idea on earth that the word "uppity" had racial connotations when he used it to describe Barack and Michelle Obama.
No idea at all. Could have knocked him over with a feather when someone told him. Really, who knew?"
Ordinarily, I would chuckle over the "gotcha," but in this case, I think Westmoreland does have a defense. He's terminally stupid.
Last night, the Colbert Report replayed Steven Colbert's original "Better Know a District" interview with the Georgia congressman. You may remember it--it was the one where Colbert asked about Westmoreland's sponsorship of a bill to post the Ten Commandments on government buildings. Perhaps the best part was when he asked Westmoreland if he knew what was IN the Ten Commandments, and Westmoreland could only come up with three of the ten.
Cut the guy some slack, folks. He's a moron, and he really, truly has NO idea what words mean. ANY words.
The real question is: what does that say about the voters who elected this doofus?

The key, like with court cases, is offering a "plausible" alternative theory. Even though it would appear implausible to most people, still there are those who would give him the benefit of doubt.
As they say back home, that dog don't hunt. ANYBODY, and I do mean ANYBODY who ever grew up in the south knows what the word "uppity" means. What horseshit.
I swear, these people would climb a tree to tell a lie when they could tell the truth standing on the ground.
This one hurts
