American Values Alliance | Practical voice for progressive valuesIt was words to that effect that I heard in response to my assertion that there was a ton of chatter about race, Obama and religion on the blogs (at a race relations meeting where we were discussing these very matters--huh!) and that there was an opportunity to support this emerging (hell, emerged!) medium in channeling that discussion into something productive.
I'm just going to say this about the Black elected official "of a certain age" who said this truly ignorant, off-handed comment: Used to be we'd say--kitchen table style...you know, just amongst ourselves---"If you want to hide something from one of us (somebody Black), put it in a book." Now, I'd amend that statement to say "If you want to hide something from one of us (again, my brethren and, uh, sistren), put it on the web."
Given how students in urban schools are being left behind, I was surprised to hear this representative proudly tout his ignorance. Maybe this Dem is just feigning bloviation--surely he knows that bloggers like those found at the now defunct IndyUndercover, struck the death knell for Indianapolis' Mayor Bart Peterson--who, with the millions in his war chest, lost to an unknown newcomer with $300,000 and blog-peeps...because of some pissed off cops and their online crew.
Nah. I think he was just being ignorant.
