The Evil "Church of Oprah"

Lalita Amos | 04/15/2008 - 12:55

Oh, my-my. Poor deluded Oprah. She's run afoul of the Christian Right, who believes that she's set herself up as her own "church" teaching things like

  1. People are embued with holiness (not sure why they have a problem with this, as many churches refer to the saved as "saints")
  2. A central message of the Cross is that it can be overcome (as Jesus overcame it through his resurrection)
  3. That there are many paths to salvation (hence all those other pesky religions and forms of worship)
  4. And that people must independently search for the truth, granting being to others on their paths rather than judging them (the terrorists--silly rabbits, all--want to shut down all other forms of spiritual investigation, excoriating or destroying all other governments, thought and social systems. Sounds familiar).

Damn her to hell! Literally.

I guess Christians "own" spirituality in all its forms and anyone who doesn't step to their form of faith (the one where god is a kid in the park focusing the sun's rays on ants through a magnifying glass...and we're the ants) are to be--what? Stoned? Shunned?

You should see the kinds of comments on the Youtube site that accompany this video. Truly heartwarming.

Like those great people in Texas (the ones with the child "brides" and "spiritual husbands"), they believe that Christians must be "protected" from the "scourge" (OK, shut up about the quotation marks!) of radical free thought.

As Dr. Phil (and my great granny) are fond of asking: "How's that working for you?"
