A Reminder of Reality for the Concern Trolls.......

Sheila Suess Kennedy | 05/07/2008 - 10:47

The overwhelming media narrative this morning is that Obama is the presumptive nominee, BUT--here the commentator gets grave and concerned--it is by no means clear that the women who supported Clinton will vote for him in November.

I know the media love a fight, but no feminist worth her burned bra is going to vote for a man who has promised to name more people like Samuel Alito and Antonin Scalia to the Supreme Court. No self-respecting woman is going to support a candidate who has wedded himself to the anti-woman, anti-child policies of the Bush Administration. It just isn't going to happen.

Right now, people who have worked their hearts out for the losing candidate are raw and hurting. But when push comes to shove, only an unbelievably self-destructive woman is going to cast a vote for four more years of what we've had for the past eight.

What Hillary supporters need to recognize is that her loss was actually a great step forward for women's rights, because she DID NOT LOSE BECAUSE SHE WAS A WOMAN. She lost because she ran against a better candidate. It wasn't misogyny, it was simple politics. And isn't that really what feminism is all about--being judged on our merits rather than on our gender?

Is the focus on Palin's family over the top?
No. By pitching her family values as chief amongst her qualifications, she asked for it.

Yes. Family is off limits no matter how much the candidate uses them.
33%
Not sure. It seems that we're supposed to consider family and other personal aspects--even if they don't impact policy.
