Bush Plays the Hitler Card

Lalita Amos | 05/15/2008 - 23:43

Just one problem,Mr. Bush...

...that WWI era Senator was William E. Borah.

Um, Republican.

Lalita Amos | 05/16/2008 - 09:54 |  I couldn't find much on that

I couldn't find much on that quote, either. Glad it wasn't just me. I think the President was only interested in making a point--regardless of context-correct attribution.

varangianguard | 05/16/2008 - 06:26 |  Attributed Quote

As far as I can tell, the quote in question is "attributed" from a single source published in 1961. Someone by the name of Marian McKenna published an article about Senator Borah in an academic journal, but I cannot find any corroboration. I would certainly want to peruse the article myself, before lifting alleged Borah quotes from it.

Senator Borah held some other opinions about Hitler that would have made me pause before quoting him (if I were President).
