American Values Alliance | Practical voice for progressive valuesI remember where I was when John Lennon was shot, when they announced that Elvis Presley had died, when the Challenger went down, when Princess Diana got married...and then died and when MTV came online (It was 8/1/81 when I heard the announcer say "Ladies and gentlemen, rock and roll," saw the MTV Moon Man, followed by Video Killed the Radio Star and then You'd Better Run).
This is more impactful than all of them.
I'm watching as another life milemarker gets set. Senator Barack Hussein Obama will be the Democratic nominee for President of the United States. Tonight.
He's run on change while changing all of us...and we will never be the same.
Got to stop typing. My face is wet.
And yes, we did.

Watching the speeches last night (3 June 08) brought back memories of the landing on the moon. I missed McCain's speech, got annoyed with Clinton’s speech, though it was the best I'd ever heard her speak, and was thrilled with Obama's challenge to America to move ahead with him leading the charge. Great stuff! I will remember this moment and the upcoming one in January '09 when Obama addresses this nation and the world as the 44th President of the United States of America. Roll on! Roll on! ROLL...ON!

I wanted to add something about the campaign, but most of it came across like a big, wet blanket. So, I'll just skip it (I know that's out of character, and all).
As far as remembering stuff, I also remember the first episode of My Mother the Car, Geraldo opening Al Capone's vault, and being able to name the Watergate complex when it first became nationally prominent on the evening news. That doesn't mean one recognizes the significance at the time.
