Effing It Up, Democratic Style: Why This Should Have Ended Much Sooner

OK. Senator Clinton is slated to suspend her candidacy on Friday. This occurs long after she's done a great deal of damage to the presumptive candidate.

Ronald Reagan issued his famous Eleventh Commandment to prevent the kind of candidate destruction we're going to see played over and over again by the members of the GOP. Here's a taste.

Ray Miller | 06/05/2008 - 14:56 |  Hillary - Just Too Self Important to Care!!!

From the day she announced, what 17 years ago? Hillary presented herself as the destiny of the Democratic party. Her arrogance and self importance turned me off immediately and I quickly began looking for who I believed truly represented the future of the Democratic Party and the nation as a whole.

I hae always had tremendous respect for Joe Biden and think he would serve this country as one of the most brilliant presidents in history. Bill Richardson, sans beard, represents the epotime of the yoeman statesman focused on getting the job done without the smoke and mirrors and more importantly without the hubris of the Clintons.

John Edwards, although someone I also respect, was always too narrowly focused for me and therefore not a viable presidential candidate.

Chris Dodd and the other 20 or 30 other candidates just never did it for me.

When Senator Obama announced his exploratory committee I told my wife, there is our next president. During his address at the 2004 Democratic Convention I thought to myself, FINALLY, FINALLY a democratic leader who could resurrect the heart and sole and drive and commitment to doing the right thing that died 40 years ago in California with Bobby Kennedy. I told my wife that night as I wiped the tears from my eyes after his speech that he would be the saviour of the party or it cannot be saved.

Well here we are and Hillary and Bill are doing their level best to prove that the part cannot be saved.

Their bile and underhanded ill conceived self centered, self absorbed, self important drive for power may be the only thing that prevents the Democrats from taking the White House and a fillibuster proof Senate.

I have hope and faith that what Barack Obama represents id bigger than the destructive nature of the Clintons, but then I preferred Sony Beta over VHS......

She needs to be shaken and Bill needs to get back on the plane with his bad boy posse chasing young women and longing to be in the limelight again.

"Fired Up, Ready to go!"

She can, as you say, redeem Kitchen Sink campaign tactics, but will she? I'm not hopeful that she can, in 5 months, undo 17 months of carnage.

Sheila Suess Kennedy | 06/05/2008 - 06:40 |  Little Miss Sunshine says...

On the other hand, as many politically
astute observers have pointed out,
more people have become engaged with,
and voted in, Democratic primaries
this year than ever before.

Hillary CAN remedy the harm she and
Bill have done if her endorsement is
sufficiently enthusiastic, and she
works hard on his behalf from this point
on.

finifinito | 06/05/2008 - 01:43 |  Sad but true

The circular firing squads within the Democratic Party are, for me, especially discouraging. I am not a big fan of party politics to begin with and this kind of stuff really turns me off. Imagine what the less engaged citizens who don't care must think!

No. Nothing against Hillary, but Bill is a loose canon and would be a constant distraction and/or embarrassment.
