The "Burning" issue of Cross Burning in Muncie... (WTF?!)

MelissaT | 07/30/2008 - 18:00

I was listening to the news (WTHR) this evening while fixing dinner and I thought I heard the anchor open a segment about the Muncie Cross Burning with the line, "A burning reminder..."

My DVR is acting up and only let me replay it a couple times (because I really didn't believe I heard her open with that phrase ~sure enough she did) before skipping ahead a few minutes to the next part of the broadcast. (I wish I would have thought to hit record when I heard it.)

Am I just over-reacting or was that really an extraordinarily tacky and insensitive way to begin a piece about racism and a cross burning???? I know as soon as I heard it I was immediately uncomfortable with the way she said it. I'm wondering if I'm the only one watching the broadcast that picked up on it...

Is barring Roland Burris a seat in the Senate racism?
Yes. Anyone notice he's the lone black guy set to replace the other lone black guy?

Nope. Blago's still under scrutiny and his appointments-white and black-are too "hot" right now.

Now that I can pronounce "Blagojevich" we need to find something else to talk about.
