Anyone be interested in getting a group together for an Election Night Countdown/Celebration (fingers crossed!)

Either way the night turns out I'm thinking I'm going to need need either a shoulder to cry on or (more optimistically) others to celebrate with. (Lord knows I'm not going to sleep at all that night.)

Oh and are we still getting together this month at Tea's Me?

We didn't want this occasion to pass quietly by. The American Values Alliance blog has been in operation for two years, emerging in its present form on 31 July 2006 as a forum for discussion of the political, social and cultural news of the day.

I heard this article mentioned today on the Tavis Smiley Show. So, I thought I'd read it here and offer my thoughts--fresh:

I remember Officer Friendly and McGruff from grade school. That, to the best of my recollection, was the extent of my grade school experience with law enforcement. I was taught that police existed primarily to protect and serve the community and catch the bad guys.

Returning home from work last Friday, a Muncie woman found a smouldering cross in her back yard.

What's tougher to get than a same-sex marriage? A same-sex divorce

I just keep asking myself why the hell is it the government's business who someone loves or commits to? Do they REALLY have nothing better to commit their time and energy to???

This week, CNN launched its Black in America series--a four-hour program that focused on women, families, men, work, religion, crime, health and life. It tried to offer a balanced perspective on being of Black African descent.

Several comments and thoughts on the two shows that aired the 23rd & 24th.

Good morn or evening, friends. Lalita Amos here and like The Blog Snob (who, along with new AVA contributor MelissaT inspired this post), I am an authentic American Negro.

The feeling of nausea that has overcome me at 4a.m. this morning, isn't due to the fact I'm finishing up a rather long (12 hour) night shift, nor is it due to the chinese food from about 6 hours ago that I probably should have put in the refridgerator some time ago. It's the sort of nausea that envelopes not only ones stomach, but ones soul as well...

As many of you know, CNN will be launching its series "Black in America" on 23 July with its Black Women and Familes program. The second day will focus on Black men.

Is the focus on Palin's family over the top?
No. By pitching her family values as chief amongst her qualifications, she asked for it.
67%
Yes. Family is off limits no matter how much the candidate use them.
33%
Not sure. It seems that we're supposed to consider family and other personal aspects--even if they don't impact policy.
