Election Reform

MelissaT | 09/06/2008 - 16:35

Sadly, I wonder just how much Bristol Palin will bear the brunt of the blame when/if McCain/Palin loose instead of people focusing on her mother's inadequacies.

The thought made my stomach churn a little. I feel for the poor girl.

Anyone be interested in getting a group together for an Election Night Countdown/Celebration (fingers crossed!)

Either way the night turns out I'm thinking I'm going to need need either a shoulder to cry on or (more optimistically) others to celebrate with. (Lord knows I'm not going to sleep at all that night.)

Oh and are we still getting together this month at Tea's Me?

MelissaT | 09/01/2008 - 01:45

So I'm at work all night again and it's relatively a slow night so I have quite a bit of time to catch up on blogs, and other assorted articles that I (try to) keep up with. (A task that's growing increasingly difficult since the semester started two weeks ago.)

We didn't want this occasion to pass quietly by. The American Values Alliance blog has been in operation for two years, emerging in its present form on 31 July 2006 as a forum for discussion of the political, social and cultural news of the day.

Over at Balkinization, Heather Gerkin has an interesting post, suggesting a way to achieve election reform. As she says, addressing the issue involves a "here to there problem."

Anybody interested in what Hillary did today?

but OFFENSIVELY wrong. If a recent press release from (ugh)Jim Bopp's law firm is to be believed, BOTH the Democratic and Republican parties will be represented by the offensive Mr. Bopp in an upcoming case. Per the release:

Tell me again how the Voter ID law--now blessed by our pro-authoritarian Supreme Court--will only hurt people intent on committing voter fraud?

According to the AP:

About 12 Indiana nuns were turned away Tuesday from a polling place by a fellow bride of Christ because they didn't have state or federal identification bearing a photograph.

In an Indy Star article, Mary Beth Schneider reported that "Some party members call the Democratic presidential primary fight trouble. On Saturday, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton called it good for democracy."

Whoever gets the most superdelegates.

The pledge delegates and the superdelegates should decide together.

Whoever gets the most electoral college votes in the states in which they got the majority (of primary/caucus votes)

OK...I am not really one who will rock the boat a lot
(maybe I do when you ask people who know me ...) but from what
I have seen in the last few days really opened my eyes.

Being in Real Estate I am very interested what is happening with
Indianans Taxes and with the assessment system and I was in the
fortunate situating to be able to talk to Cheryl Musgrave

Lalita Amos | 02/19/2008 - 18:26

Seems that the good people over at Color of Change aren't going to take this silly Super Delegate business sitting down:

Dear Lalita,

I really want to like Hillary Clinton. I mean I really want to like her as a fellow human being and child of God, but she and her main squeeze ain't making it very easy.

Poll
Is the focus on Palin's family over the top?
No. By pitching her family values as chief amongst her qualifications, she asked for it.
67%
Yes. Family is off limits no matter how much the candidate uses them.
33%
Not sure. It seems that we're supposed to consider family and other personal aspects--even if they don't impact policy.
